Odin Sokac – Keeping the Blues Alive and Young
At just 16 years old, Croatian singer and guitarist Odin Sokac, also known as Odin S, is already making his mark on the European blues scene.
For Odin, the blues is a musical language built on emotion, feeling and personal expression. He believes that anyone who connects with these emotions can play and sing the blues, regardless of age.
His single “Mannerist Blues”, released on 31 May 2024, is a powerful expression of that inspiration and a testament to the next generation of young European blues musicians.
Odin Sokac and the European Blues Union
Odin Sokac has been developing his musical skills through international blues education programmes supported by the European Blues Union (EBU).
In 2023, he attended the Little Steven Blues School, and in 2024 he was selected to participate in the Pinetop Perkins Foundation Workshop. These opportunities have allowed him to learn from experienced musicians and connect with young blues artists and professionals from around the world.
For the release of “Mannerist Blues”, Odin collaborated with producer Fabrizio “Fab” Grossi and Italian singer and guitar player Matt Pascale.
Matt Pascale also participated in the Little Steven Blues School and the Pinetop Perkins Foundation Workshop, thanks to scholarships supported by the European Blues Union.
Blues Education and the Next Generation
The collaboration between young musicians, experienced blues professionals and international music education programmes shows how the blues can continue to evolve while preserving its rich musical heritage.
Supporting young artists is an important part of building the future of the European blues scene. Through scholarships, workshops and international opportunities, the European Blues Union helps young musicians gain experience, develop their skills and build connections across borders.
The story of Odin Sokac is a great example of how blues education can inspire a new generation of European blues artists.
Let’s Keep the Blues Alive and Young
The European Blues Union’s Blues for Youth initiative supports young people and helps introduce new generations to the blues through education, opportunities and international exchange.
