As every year we ask our students a feedback from their great experience at the Little Steven Blues School in Notodden, here is what they wrote:

This was unforgettable experience playing with young musicians from different corners of the world. First time in real studio supported by Elisabeth, Bard Gunnar and Espen was completely stress free and enjoyable. I enjoyed every day of the event and learned a lot.

Last year I got a scholarship from the European Blues Union and I went to Notodden, Norway for the first time. My stay there was eventful. This year I went there again and it got better and better. To meet young people, both new and old, with a strong interest in Blues music and to develop their knowledge in the world of music. Our teachers who taught us are professional musicians from all over the world. This year we had guitarist Johnny Burgin and singer Earl Thomas Bridgeman and performed the students songs. Every student has there own approach of the classic blues standards but also takes inspiration from blues greats and there own creativity to keep the blues alive. This school gives opportunities and contacts for the future it also feels like we’re a big blues family. I look forward to come back and experience this amazing week.

Attending Little Steven’s Blues School in Notodden was an unforgettable experience and a true journey into the heart of blues music. I had the privilege of meeting some of the most talented young blues musicians I’ve ever heard around the world, while immersing myself in the rich blues culture of Norway. The camp was exceptionally well-organized, with every activity and performance serving as a valuable learning opportunity. The week kicked off with introductions from the teachers and staff, who went out of their way to create a warm and welcoming environment. We were divided into four different bands and immediately began rehearsing for our first performance, set to take place in just a few days. Each day was filled with band practice, studio recording sessions, jam sessions, and masterclasses led by incredible artists like Johnny Burgin and Earl Thomas. We also had the chance to attend all the festival shows for free and engage in conversations with major performers such as Vanessa Collier and DK Harrel. There was a deep sense of respect from the very start; everyone was there because of a shared passion for the blues, and that connection was evident throughout the week. In the evenings, we would exchange licks and musical ideas, with everyone eager to learn from one another. I wholeheartedly recommend Little Steven’s Blues School to any young blues musician or singer looking to deepen their understanding of the genre. Not only did I gain invaluable insights into the blues, but I also forged lifelong friendships. I’ll definitely be returning to the Notodden Blues Festival, where the soul of the blues continues to thrive.
