From his long running Digital Blues radio show to founding member of UK Blues Federation, or his podcasts for Blues Matters Magazine, he has been at the forefront of UK blues. He has been Master of Ceremonies at most blues clubs across the UK building up contacts that he could use in pushing UK blues forward. He is UK Blues, as he silently works behind the scenes on anything to help UK artists move to the next level. He has written sleeve notes for artists CDs, and even co-produced a Cd when he lived in Essex, of artists from the area to gain exposure with promoters & bookers. It is his passion for celebrating blues artists via his radio show that he is most appreciated for. UK Blues would not be what it is now without him. PRODUCTION:
The recipient of this award has enjoyed a long career as a sound engineer and producer, mostly working at BBC Radio in the UK, specializing in live sessions and concerts, including sessions with B. B. King and Johnny Winter in the ‘90s. From 2006 to 2013 he produced the Paul Jones Blues Show on BBC Radio 2. Prior to his recent retirement after 40 years at the BBC, he also produced live sessions for the Cerys Matthews BBC Radio 2 Blues Show. In 2006, he came across a podcast from a broadcaster called Dave Raven with whom he established a long friendship and who gave him the inspiration to do his own radio show starting in 2014. He is also a member of the multi awarded UK blues band, Catfish, and has produced their CDs as well as being more and more in demand as an engineer and producer on other bands and artists CDs. PROMOTION:
In 2012 they started the BB Blues Fest in Baixa da Banheira, which grows every year becoming now for 4 years a EBC awarding festival. As a consequence of BB Blues Fest, they created the first blues Association in Portugal which runs a variety of blues activities to promote Blues in their country: A monthly blues nigh since 2014 in Baixa da Banheira a small village near Lisbon. “The American Corners Shows” in different Universities & “This Is America Event” in partnership with the American Embassy and the Portuguese-American Commerce Chamber. Since 2016 they are responsible of the process to select the band representing Portugal at the EBC that, since last year, has evolved to the 1st Portugal Blues Challenge with a live final. Besides supporting and be an inspiration source for many other Blues Festivals in Portugal, they are executive producers of 3 more Festivals (Blues da Guarda, Azeitão Blues Experience and Horned Snake Blues Fest), and more are on the plan!
