Enzo Cappadona: this week at the Pinetop Perkins Workshop was an experience I won’t soon forget
I had the opportunity to learn from incredible musicians who were not only highly talented but also approachable and generous with their knowledge. Beyond the lessons on music and stage performance, I was deeply impressed by their humility and willingness to share. Each of them had something valuable to pass on, whether through their experience, personal stories, or simply their approach to music. One of the highlights of the workshop was being invited by the instructors to accompany the choir on *Begging for Change* by Billy Branch.
Sharing the stage with Brandon Miller, Mr. Sipp, Teeny Tucker, Billy Branch, Andrew Sullivan, Wyly Bigger, Kiersi Joli, Danielle Nicole, and Dionte McMusick was a true honor and will undoubtedly remain one of the most memorable moments of this trip. Having the chance to talk with them after the performances, listen to their advice, and receive feedback on my playing made the experience even more meaningful. Since this was my first trip to the United States, I also took the opportunity to explore Mississippi and some of the landmarks that are deeply connected to blues history, thanks to Fred Delforge (President of France Blues), whom I would like to sincerely thank.
I visited the Delta Blues Museum, the famous Crossroads, the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center, the Sun Studio, the Civil Rights Museum, as well as the legendary Blue Front Cafe owned by Jimmy “Duck” Holmes. Walking through places I had heard about for years gave me a deeper understanding of blues culture and the strong connection that local communities still have with it today.
I would also like to thank Liz and David for their warm welcome. Their kindness played a big part in making this trip such a memorable experience. I’m returning home with wonderful memories, new friendships, a great deal of inspiration, and a renewed desire to keep growing as a musician. This week reminded me why I love this music so much and why I want to continue carrying it forward. Thank you to everyone who contributed, directly or indirectly, to making this journey so special.
