Rock 4FH

Blues, Community and Awareness in Zagreb

On Sunday, 24 September, in Zagreb, Croatia, young blues musicians from the European Blues Union joined forces for a very special cause: raising awareness of Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH and HoFH) as part of World FH Awareness Day.

The day began with Run4FH, a charity race that brought together 220 runners, despite the rain and cold weather. After completing the 5K run, the participants continued their efforts in a different way — by turning up the volume and helping to “rock the lipids”. The message was simple and powerful: raising awareness of inherited high cholesterol and encouraging people to pay greater attention to their health.

Music soon became the heart of the celebration. EBU young lions Matt Pascale from Italy, together with Croatian musicians Jadran Mihalčić, Odin S and Westsiders, took to the stage to bring blues, rock and positive energy to the event. Their performances added a special atmosphere to a day built around awareness, solidarity and community.

The event was also an opportunity for musicians to meet, share experiences and learn from one another. During his free time, Matt Pascale cooked a selection of delicious Italian specialities and, just as importantly, shared his musical knowledge and experience with some of the younger musicians. It was a wonderful example of how music can create connections that go far beyond the stage, bringing together different generations, cultures and musical traditions.

For the European Blues Union, supporting initiatives like this is particularly meaningful. The blues has always been a music rooted in community, human connection and shared experiences. Seeing a new generation of European blues musicians putting their talent and enthusiasm at the service of an important charitable cause is something to celebrate.

We are proud that our young blues forces helped make this charity event even more special. Their music, energy and commitment demonstrated once again that the blues can do more than entertain: it can bring people together, raise awareness and make a positive contribution to the wider community.

From the starting line to the stage, Zagreb showed that when the blues gets involved, even an important health message can find its own rhythm.
