PRODUCTION

In 1981, CrossCut Records was founded by Detlev Hoegen. A blues enthusiast himself, his goal was to promote the blues in Europe. The mail order department started in July of the same year. The first LP releases were re-issues of hard-to-find albums by Otis Spann, Freddie King, Papa George Lightfoot or Eddie Boyd. In 1984, he started recording and producing artists like Charlie Musselwhite, The Nighthawks, Jimmy Rogers, Ronnie Earl and many more. From 1989 to the early 2000s, CrossCut distributed the California ‘Blue Rock’It’ label in Europe. Before selling the mail order department to Bear Family Records in 2004 where he works now, CrossCut stocked more than eight thousand different blues titles and shipped to several thousand collectors all over the world. Today, he is still running the label. Josh Smith and Shawn Pittman are two of the popular blues acts on CrossCut. Most recent 2022 additions include Franck Goldwasser from California and Paris, and The Bluesanovas, a young retro-style band from Germany. For the continuous and endless work to release, produce and sell an amazing collection of blues recordings, which has helped to make blues popular in Europe, the Winner in PRODUCTION category is Mr. DETLEV HOEGEN, owner of CrossCut Records in GERMANY
