Fred, EBU Administrator, was once again in Frederikshavn, Denmark, for the 20th edition of the Blues Heaven Festival, reaffirming the strong ties between the event and the European blues community.
This anniversary edition focused on internationally acclaimed artists, including Sugaray Rayford, John Németh, Kid Ramos feat. Brian Templeton, Johnny Rawls and Thornetta Davis. European blues was equally prominent, with performances from James Hunter Six (UK), Frimer & Møller (DK), Joakim Tinderholt (NO), Mr Bo Big Blues Bonanza (SE), Blues Music Award winners JT Lauritsen & The Buckshot Hunters (NO), and Alice Armstrong (UK), winner of the 2025 European Blues Challenge.
One of the festival highlights was the outstanding collaboration between the European Blues Aces and Johnny Burgin, showcasing the vitality and quality of today’s European blues scene.
Special praise goes to Peter Astrup and Gitte Adsersen for the flawless organisation of the festival, supported by a dedicated team of volunteers. Jean and Paul Benjamin also played a key role, warmly welcoming artists and audiences while expertly introducing the performers throughout the weekend.
Two decades after its launch, Blues Heaven Festival continues to stand among Europe’s premier blues festivals, combining world-class talent, a friendly atmosphere and an unwavering commitment to the blues.
