European Blues Takes on Memphis
From January 16 to 20, 2024, a small but passionate group of European blues bands made their way to Memphis, Tennessee, to take part in the International Blues Challenge — one of the most important gatherings on the blues calendar.
Representing different countries, musical traditions and generations, these European artists came together in the birthplace of so much blues history, carrying with them not only their music, but also the spirit of the European blues scene.
And, as always, Croatia was there in force.
Despite winter storms, extreme weather conditions and all the challenges that came with travelling to Memphis in January, a remarkable group of Croatian musicians, supporters and blues lovers made the journey. Their enthusiasm, energy and unwavering passion once again showed how strong and committed the European blues community can be.
For a few intense days, Memphis became a meeting point for blues musicians and fans from around the world — a place where different cultures and musical backgrounds came together through a shared love of the blues.
It was about much more than a competition. It was about meeting old friends, discovering new artists, sharing experiences and celebrating the music we all love.
The European presence may have been small, but the passion was anything but.
Here is a little taste of what happened in Memphis in January 2024 — a few moments from an unforgettable journey into the heart of the blues:
